Hostile Submarines on a Collision Course
Written in brief episodes, EPITAPH tells the dramatic tale of Russian and American submariners who set out to thwart a terrorist plot to blow up an atomic bomb placed at the base of Ellis Island, during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
GRANT MCKINNON stands in a January snow storm, watching his USS MIAMI moored at the US Naval Submarine Base in Groton, Connecticut. He is troubled by a phone call he has just received from VALERIK DANYANKOV, Commander of an AKULA class submarine, out of Lapadnaya Lista, the Russian Submarine Base. Their paths had crossed before, in OF ICE AND STEEL, and they had become friends.
In the Persian Gulf, near Iran's Bandar-E Abbas Naval Base, Commander ASHA FEROZ, aboard his old Russian KYLO class submarine, has come up with a way to put into action his masters' plan of revenge and destruction.
Meanwhile, the Sonar operator aboard the USS TEXAS, in the Persian Gulf to monitor Iran's naval maneuvers as they test a new torpedo, separates a strange sound signature from the clutter of a fishing fleet. And the chase is on.
With the US fleet and its flagship the USS RONALD REAGAN, watching from a distance as Iranian navy puts on a display of their power, the Iranian President meets with the Grand Ayatollah, who orders Commander Feroz to prepare for one final mission. When all is ready, Feroz, his crew and his sub, hidden in the belly of an aging tanker, set off through the Suez Canal.
In the Russian capital, a schoolgirl finds the frozen bodies of a man and a woman under a bridge. He was a clerk of Archives, and she, an Iranian national, both have been murdered. In the Kremlin, the Minister of Defense is notified that upon searching through the most secret of their files, a forty-year-old one is missing. That is when the Minister orders his son-in-law, Danyankov, to Moscow for new orders.
In this age of GPS reckoning and hi-tech listening devices, little moves above, in or under the oceans of the world, without someone noticing, unless you hide within plain sight.
With every turn of the three submarines' screws, as they converge, the tension torques, and decisions must be made.

In his latest work D. Clayton Meadows, weaves a tale of espionage and intrigue, of men and machines, of hope and hate. In EPITAPH a forgotten weapon of unimaginable power falls into the hands of America's sworn enemy. Two men, Russian submarine Captain Valerik Danyankov and American submariner Grant McKinnon find themselves the only hope for a world at the mercy of international terror. From the frozen reaches of the Arctic to the sweltering heat of the Middle East, right to the doorstep of the United States three men and three submarines fight for life or utter and total destruction.
In the waste of the Arctic ice, a deadly relic lies, frozen and forgotten. When a new Russian revolution brings man kind to the very brink of oblivion, the sleeping relic is loosed on an already frightened world. Ships begin to disappear. The super powers accuse one another, as all nations, draw their battle lines. A nuclear devise is stolen, to be delivered to the most wanted and murderous terrorist in history. It is a time when only a spark is required to ignite a nuclear exchange. One man has the answer. Three men and three submarines must overcome mistrust, and their own demons to explain the unexplainable and deliver the world from a global holocaust.
